I've made a recipe like this before but they both essentially taste the same. I'm pretty sure this shouldn't be labeled a "lighter" version since I definitely was told to fry it in a pan but here we go anyway.
This is what Martha said it would look like. Thaaaanks, Martha! This is the first post using a Martha Stewart recipe. Is everyone excited??
All together now!
Mom chopped the chicken into two inch pieces as described in the recipe, and then cut them in half because that was too big.
The sauce. So many seeds!
Mixing the egg whites and corn starch. The other recipe I used had me dip them in the eggs then into the corn starch. I think I liked this way better cause it was only one step and it seemed to coat the chicken better.
…as seen here.
Mom super following the recipe and trimming and slicing the broccoli stems.
They stuck together like one weirdly shaped pancake!
Mom is a green onion chopping pro.
Me, backing away while flipping the chicken, in three stages...
I cooked the chicken in the pan for as long as it said to and until it was brown but I didn't feel like it was really cooked all the way through. I ended up putting them in the oven for about 5 minutes to cook them through.
Chicken out of the oven, mixing/cooking with the sauce and the green onions.
What it looked like mixed together and cooked.
Yum!
Not a bad recipe! The chicken was pretty moist and was cooked through. The broccoli was actually perfect. Probably because Mom cooked it exactly to the recipe's specifications. You probably could get away with only cooking the chicken in the oven to make it truly lighter. I would have used more garlic probably, maybe some sesame oil, and definitely less sesame seeds! Two tablespoons is a huge amount. Martha was probably just trying to get rid of her stash of seeds that everyone seems to have and no one can figure out how to get rid of.
Stuck to the script: We did really good I think, maybe 95% cause we put it in the oven for a bit to be safe.
As you've probably noticed, I stopped adding the nutrition facts. They seemed super out of whack and I haven't started the search for a better program yet. Let me know if you have any ideas...
